about our (your) wastewater
Where does it all go? We work very hard not to leave any
clues where it goes -- no smells and no spills. Because clean beaches
are essential to San Diego's tourism economy and quality of life, we're
always "thinking downstream."
60% of the 5.2 million gallons of wastewater we manage daily flows
through our system to the City of San Diego Metropolitan
Wastewater Department system for treatment at the Point Loma
Wastewater Treatment Plant and offshore discharge into the Pacific
Ocean.
We divert the other 40% of our daily wastewater flow to
our Water Recycling Facility for treatment and distribution to
commercial customers and Santee Lakes Recreation Preserve.
Diverting this 40% decreases our City of San Diego treatment costs 14%,
which helps keep our customer rates down.
