The San Diego County Water Authority Did Not Meet Treatment Requirement (Disinfection)
The San Diego County Water Authority is a wholesale water provider that treats and sells drinking water to 24 retail water agencies, including Padre Dam, for distribution to homes and businesses. The Water Authority recently experienced a treatment process failure at its regional treatment plant on April 21-22, 2019. The water delivered to you by Padre Dam continued to be safe for all uses.
Although this was not an emergency, customers have a right to know what happened and what the San Diego County Water Authority doing to correct this situation. You do not need to boil your water or take other actions.
On April 21-22, 2019, water in the Water Authority’s treatment plant was not in contact with the proper dosage of a disinfectant called ozone for the required amount of time. The Water Authority implemented policy and engineering changes to immediately identify and correct improper valve conditions that led to the April 21-22 incident. If there had been an emergency, the San Diego County Water Authority would have notified people immediately.
